Match Report – Maeshafn CC v Iceland

Thursday 5th June 2008

Team: Gresty, Fagan, Jones Roger, Scarratt, Lewis Simon, Lewis Harry, Steve, Parsons, Pugh, Williams, Bickerton.

Maeshafn lost by 9 wickets. Maeshafn 66 all out off 18 overs. Iceland 113 off 17 overs.

The strangest game ever played at Nercwys, with 4 players ending up in the waiting room at Wrexham Maelor A&E.

Iceland started off with a very good couple of batsmen who were clearly league standard thumping Scarratt and Jones Roger all over the place, which is a very rare sight indeed. One retired after reaching 25 which was a huge relief, and the other was caught on 20. Both a pleasure to watch. The batting went slightly downhill after this for them, but after a rather inocuous ball from Jones Roger hit a players bat and caught the side of his head, resulting in a trip to casualty for him and another Iceland player. Blood everywhere. Few moments later Williams Dave decided to tear his cartillage by turning strangely as he finished his bowling run up. He ended up being carried off the field of (battle?) play on a cricket bat. Another two to the Maelor. Iceland finished on 113. The Lewis father and son duo joined the Maeshafn team to cover for the two missing players.

Maeshafn had their usual batting collapse, with Gresty going for a duck, Fagan for 3 run out, Jones Roger bowled for a golden duck and only the two Lewis's and Sean Thomas hitting any runs. I think everyone had lost the will to play at this point as it was quite late, and we were slightly concerned for the fate of our captain Williams, who looked to be in a little bit of pain as he was carried off.

Not the best game we have ever played!

Think of all the fun we could have with a bowling machine....!
