Match Report – Maeshafn CC v. Llanelidan CC

Sunday 11th May 2008

35 over - Friendly

Team: Jones, Aled, Parsons, Pugh, Jones, Rhun, Bickerton, Turner, Fagan, Longhurst, Gresty, Jones, Richard, Williams.

Maeshafn won by 2 wickets. Llanelidan 84 all out, Maeshafn 85 for 7

On paper, this looked a very simple task. Llanelidan had 8 players, and we had a full squad. Their openers only managed to score 49 off 20 overs, and we were expecting to be done and dusted in a few overs! Beautiful ground and pavilion, and pictures to follow when I charge my camera up..

What we hadnt realised was that Llanelidan's pitch was not really a pitch. In fact it was a field with the grass cut very short around the wicket. When batting this presented the immediate problem that the bounce was as random as our own beloved ground, and the ball could disappear into the air or roll along the ground. The fact that Llanelidan actually got to 84 was nothing short of a miracle (we let them double their batsmen up as well), and it took a good display from our batsmen at numbers 8 and 9 to get us near the same..

Derek Parsons must be mentioned in this brief report for 1. a dive, 2. 2 fantastic catches, both at slip.

Gresty, Fagan, WIlliams and Bickerton all got 2 wickets each in the bowling, and in the batting Longhurst top scored on 24 to save our bacon. The other batsmen struggled apart from Jones, Aled, who found some form opening the batting and hit a quick 18 runs.

Nice team to play, good game and atmospheree, but v.interesting pitch..!

Think of all the fun we could have with a bowling machine....!
