Match Report – Heberians v Maeshafn CC

Wednesday 14th May 2008

20-20 Chester Midweek League

Team: Longhurst, Fagan, Gresty, Scarratt, Jones Richard, Bickerton, Davies, Jones Aled, Pugh, Parsons, Williams.

Heberians won by 5 wickets. Maeshafn 64 all out, Heberians 67 for 5 off 10 overs.

Back to the Midweek League for a game at Tattenhall CC in a beautiful spot again. Fairly well beaten again, but partly our own mistakes rather than anything else. Heberians opened the bowling with a seamer and a spinner, and our batsmen again struggled with accurate line and length bowling, which resulted in a reasonable start, but a very cheap dismissal of our no.1 batsman Longhurst with a straight ball from a good spin bowler took place, and Fagan followed not long after. A spirited performance by Jones Aled down the order again gave the team a bit of a lift, but we finished on a miserable 64, with only 53 being runs actually scored by batsmen. Davies had his first meaningful knock, and hit a boundary, with encouraging signs of a bit of skill with the bat.

Having given Heberians something to bat at (!), we kept them well pinned down with the opening over going for 13 runs! However we managed to knock down 5 wickets before Heberians reached the figure required in 10 overs, hitting the last two balls for 4.

We went home accepting that maybe, just maybe, our batting skills need to be improved somewhat so that we can give some of these teams a bit of competition in league games!!

Think of all the fun we could have with a bowling machine....!
