Match Report – Maeshafn CC v Kinnerton CC

Sunday 18th May 2008

Friendly

Team: Gresty, Fagan (c), Scarratt, Jones Aled, Bartlam N, Bartlam H, Pugh (w), Bickerton, Parsons, Gresty D.

1. Maeshafn won by 7 wickets. Kinnerton 51 all out, Maeshafn 53 for 4.

2. Maeshafn won by 39 runs. Maeshafn 110 for 9, Kinnerton 71 all out.

A great day for a friendly, and with a nice team. Kinnerton agreed to a 35 over game, and won the toss, electing to bat.

The game started with Scarratt bowling a maiden over, and then Bickerton spin bowling his way to a record 17 runs off 5 balls in the second over! The captain was slightly concerned he had made a rather big mistake with his selection, but in the next over Scarratt removed the tormenting batsman and Bickerton then had an over with 2 wickets!

The first innings included a great catch yet again from Parsons in slip, and some good keeping from Pugh (no byes). Bickerton and Fagan both finished with 3 wickets, and Scarratt did the job of removing the batsman who threatened us most.

After removing Kinnerton for such a low amount, we went into bat, and it has to be said that their bowling was extremely good. Fagan was dismissed following a good catch in the slips, and Gresty P retired hurt after being hit in the head by a bouncer. One of the Maeshafn players was heard to say "good job he was wearing a helmet", before discovering that the cracking sound heard was actually Gresty's head, and not a helmet!

Bartlam N saw us through with some nice shots as well from Jones A.

In the second game, Bartlam N started the run rate with Parsons quite nicely, getting to 19 off 4 overs, but some very interesting LBW decisions from the umpire started to see wickets falling. Aled Jones had retired by this point, so we only had 9 batsmen (Jones A suffering a very loud popping noise in his calf!).

Gresty D hit his first boundary, and Bickerton also carved himself an innnings, before Fagan and Scarratt came into do some damage towards the end. Maeshafn finished on 110 for 8.

Kinnerton never really recovered from losing their top batsman to Scarratt in the 7th over, and the bowling was again reasonable, restricting scoring opportunities for them. Parsons had a particularly good 3 overs, going for 5 runs. However, the main talk of the second innings was Gresty P, who by now was looking slightly injured with a swollen brain, but managed to take 4 wickets including that of Hilton, who was on 29 at the time. The first ever 3 wicket maiden was recorded by a Maeshafn player, particularly one with a swollen brain and a sore head!

Good game, good spirit and a pleasure to play Kinnerton again.

Think of all the fun we could have with a bowling machine....!
