Club news for November 2020.
Derek Parsons – Original MCC Player
We have not yet posted on the website to mark the passing of a former Maeshafn Cricket Club legend, Derek Parsons. Derek (Degsy) joined the club when it started on the village green before progressing to play in the midweek league and also come on tour with us numerous times. In 2009 he played a match in the North Wales Cricket League and was the oldest player to have ever donned a shirt for Maeshafn Cricket Club (70 years young at the time I think). Famous for his infectious laugh, wicked sense of humour and ability to do the funniest things, Derek will be sorely missed by all. RIP Derek Parsons.
Dave Hobbs
Very sad news this week as we learnt that Dave Hobbs has died. Dave played mainly for the Northop Irregulars CC side, but also helped out Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn CC, playing his last game for us in the 2019 season. A lovely, quiet and unassuming fast bowler with a surprisingly difficult action to face. No-one ever heard him say a bad word about anyone else. Sorely missed and our thoughts go out to his family. RIP Dave Hobbs.
Cricket Nets 2021
Cricket Nets will start in February 2021 with the following dates at the Argoed High School Sports Centre:
26th Feb, 5,12,19 March and 9th April 2021. 7.45pm-9.45pm indoor net sessions booked. Here’s hoping all is well for them to take place by then. Anyone welcome to come along.
Junior Coach Wanted
As Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn Cricket Club look to the future, we are seeking a Level 2 ECB Cricket Coach to develop a junior section at the Argoed Sports complex. We are planning great things, including a full revamp of the astro wicket and hope to be able to get junior cricket back on the map in Mynydd Isa. If you are a Level 2 coach looking to run your own junior section please get in touch as we would be delighted to hear from you. Email the club secretary at jbandcfagan@gmail.com
